The South’s biggest running event, the Great South Run, is taking place on Sunday 20th October and Portsmouth Hospitals Charity have their biggest team to date signed up! However, they do still have a few spaces left for anyone in the community who wishes to take part and raise money for their local hospital.
The charity raises funds to help enhance patient care, support staff wellbeing, and enhance medical research across Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust (PHU). This year, the charity is asking for a minimum of £160 to be raised by their runners, for a ward or department of their choice.
Zoe Howlett is running for the Teenage and Young People Cancer and Lymphoma Fund this year. She said, “For around ten months or so, I was having treatment here (PHU) and they were absolutely fantastic. They did unbelievable things and I just feel like I really need to repay them and share a bit of awareness.”
Jodie Young, Fundraising Officer at Portsmouth Hospitals Charity, said, “Every year our community of staff, volunteers, families, and patients join us for this wonderful event. It is always so inspiring to hear why people have chosen to support the charity and the Great South Run is a great way to raise funds and show that support.”
Last year’s Great South Run saw more than £18,000 raised for the charity by their fundraisers!
Jodie added, “The charity can only do what it does because of events like this and the support of our community. It is so great to see how the money raised from these events makes a difference to the hospital and the people who use it every day. We can’t wait to see everyone there and cheer them on!”
