In December 2022, my wife Rachel was admitted to QA Hospital in Portsmouth with symptoms of flu. Within hours she was fighting for her life, given only hours to live. The Intensive Care team at Portsmouth saved her life and we will all be forever grateful. Was it not for the amazing heart consultant who performed an ECMO operation (he was the only person available in the country who was qualified!) and the amazing nurse, who now has a prized teddy bear named after her, we would have lost her.
The care and skill of the team were incredible, all of the lovely staff were truly amazing. We are so lucky to have them. Portsmouth Hospitals Charity are the best way we can say thank you to the team and help keep the hospital the amazing place it is.
I am running the Great South Run in 2025, following my wife and daughter who completed the Great South Mini in 2024, to raise money, specifically for the Intensive Care department. I have completed the run before, but no number of previous attempts makes it any easier! Less fit, more fat and definitely older, it’s going to be a struggle!
