My goal is to run 10 miles in the Great South Run 2024 in the hope that I can fundraise for Portsmouth Hospitals Charity, specifically for Research & Innovation.

Working for a time as a Clinical Trials Assistant in support of the incredible research nurses, doctors and lab staff at PHUT I have seen first-hand what a difference this work can make in patient's lives.

Did you know that the majority of care that patients receive in hospitals and from their local GPs has come about as a result of clinical research? This includes new medicines to cure and prevent illness, different tests used for diagnosis, and even the way services are organised, and staff are trained. Ultimately, high-quality clinical research means the NHS can improve future healthcare for everyone.

On a personal note, I have been on the patient side of the QA Hospital Research Team's endeavours too - on the day of my surgery in January 2024. Although I wasn't eligible for that particular study I can say without a doubt that the work they're doing is second to none - the late Queen certainly thought so - having awarded an MBE honour to PHUT's Research lead Anoop in 2021!
